Have you ever wanted to start a blog and immediately came up with excuses why not to do it? I have. And then I started to write despite all of them, and it has been a rewarding experience. So in this post, you’ll find several reasons why you should start a blog and how blogging could benefit you.

Blogging is a creative outlet

Having a blog where you write about things which you are passionate about can be a great way to boost your creativity and imagination.

When I first started to write a blog it wasn’t with money-making or helping others in mind. I just wanted to share my experiences during travel so that I would have a place where it was documented. With the first posts, I discovered that it takes some creativity to write in an interesting way, to find related images, and to structure posts and blog itself in a way that I like.

There are a lot of aspects to blogging, and each of us can find something that is closer to their creative needs. It can be just improving your writing style, taking and editing most beautiful photos, creating pages and categories on a blog, coming up with unique post ideas that nobody else has written about and so on.

Blogging helps you to learn new things

Inevitably you will learn new things while blogging. It is easy to set up a blog and write a few posts about a topic, but as you continue to do this, there will be some new things that will help you grow.

You will learn to write better

English is my second language, and I feel that blogging has contributed to my writing skills a bit. It is helpful to have tools like Grammarly which check my writing, so hopefully, it is improving over time.

In addition to the language itself, you will learn to think about the structure of the text that you are writing. What is the aim of this post that you want to achieve? How to write it in an engaging and informative way, so that you don’t bore your reader to death? How to add chapters in the text, so that it has content, but in the same time the reader can scan it for the parts that seem the most interesting?

You will learn more about the topic which you are writing about

Even if you are an expert in the niche that you will choose to write about, you will still most probably do some additional research about the topics that you write about.

I write about travel and blogging, and none of the posts on this blog have been written without researching the topic a bit.

The fun thing is that not only I learn something new about the topics that I’m passionate to write about, but my readers get a higher quality content as well. So this is a win/win situation.

You will expand your technical knowledge

It’s true that you don’t need to have a computer science degree to start a blog. It’s actually pretty simple.

Other blog set-up tasks like installing themes and plug-ins also sound more serious than they actually are. In fact, there is a tutorial for almost everything that you would need for a WordPress blog, and for a lot of things, there are even Youtube videos with step-by-step guides.

However, there is a lot of such smaller things. You don’t have to do them all at once. You’ll learn one small step at a time. And after a few months when you’ll look back it will be surprising – there will be some interesting technical knowledge that you’ll possess that your non-blogging friends won’t even know about.

Blogging lets you help other people

If you approach blogging from the business side, you’ll soon learn that you have to keep your audience in mind when creating new blog posts.

What is in it for them? Why should they come to your blog and read your content?

The reason is that you write things that are helpful. They transform your readers to a better version of them. You explain how something can be done, or review some product that might be helpful to your reader. You inspire to visit some interesting place in a travel destination. You give some advice that has value to the reader.

Blogging doesn’t require prior knowledge

It is easy to start a blog and to write some posts. If you are interested to try it out, there is no excuse to postpone it.

There are some free options to just start a free WordPress blog if you want to just see how it feels to write an article and how the overall process works.

However, if you have some more serious plans for your blog in the future it is worth to invest a little bit and to go with the self-hosted blog. It will be all yours, look more professional, and you will be able to experiment with it more (choose from more themes, try out display advertising for monetization, etc.).

Blogging can be profitable

There are many blogging niches in which it is relatively easy to make money.

Many bloggers make hundreds of dollars each month. It takes a lot of work to get until that position, but it is certainly possible.

There are several ways how to make money with your blog. You can display advertisements, promote products and receive affiliate commissions, do sponsored posts, create your own products to sell and so on.

And the cool thing is that this extra income will come from writing about something that you are passionate about.

Blogging helps you to get to know more people and grow a community

When you are writing a blog you will be bound to communicate with other like-minded people. These most probably be mostly online discussions, but rewarding and interesting nevertheless.

You will most probably read more blogs of other people in your niche to be up-to-date about what is written in the same niche. There are a lot of Facebook groups where you can interact and help each other to grow your blog. It is also smart to follow people in your industry on Twitter/Pinterest/Instagram to see what they are up to.

Another group of people that you will interact with will be your readers. They will leave comments. Maybe you will have an email list and you will build your tribe that way. It will give you a sense of satisfaction when you’ll receive nice feedback from anyone that has found any help from your blog posts.

Blog can be written anytime and from anywhere

Blogging is quite flexible – you just need a computer (or phone) and an internet connection. You can work from anywhere in the world. You can write a blog post anytime you want.

This kind of flexibility leaves no place for excuses. Anyone can find a little bit of time in their schedules to devote to a hobby (or potential business in the future).

Take action and start a blog

In a year from now will you think back and wish that you had started a blog today? Probably yes. Many people regret the things that they didn’t do at all rather than the things which they at least tried.

Start a blog today and experience the ability to create content that is helpful to others and might lead to financial freedom for yourself.
