When you consider starting a blog one of the main things that you need to consider is what you’ll be writing about. There is a lot of advice out there on how to sign up for hosting for just $3.95 a month and make a profit by blogging. The important thing is that you can earn money in blogging if you can solve problems for your audience. And some blogging niches are better at this than others.
What is a blog niche
A blog niche is the broader topic that the majority of blog posts on a particular blog are about. For example, there are such niches:
- Personal finance
- And a lot of others
How to choose a blog niche and evaluate niche ideas
One of the basic ways how to choose what you’ll be writing about is making a list of things that you are passionate about, where you are an expert or have some experience in or something that you would like to explore more and write about the process. Your interests may lead you to a good blog niche.
But will you be able to make money in that niche?
I have seen a lot of blogs in different niches that are profitable. Many courses on how to make money online will tell you that any topic that you choose can be monetized. But there are some niches that are easier to make profitable, and for beginner bloggers, those would be more likely to ignite the will to continue blogging.
A popular way how to make money with a blog is affiliate marketing. What it means is that you promote a product or service on your blog by mentioning it in your blog posts, and if your reader clicks on the link and buys the product you get a small commission for referring the person. And this is at no additional cost to your readers.
If you want to learn more about affiliate marketing, try out this bundle. It explains in more detail, what affiliate marketing is, and how to make your first affiliate sale. Check it out now and get $5 off using code “TSA5OFF”. And if you get the bundle, I’ll be rewarded with a small commission (see what I did there?).
And what is the best way to include the products that you want to sell in your blog posts? You have to solve a problem for your audience and show, how the promoted products will help them.
You can check the Affiliate marketing bundle from the text above as an example. I’m writing this post to help you to choose a niche for a blog that would be profitable. One of the ways how to make money by blogging is affiliate marketing, and the bundle is a really good resource that I’d recommend to anyone who wants to monetize their blog. So purchasing the affiliate marketing bundle and putting it into action would also help you to make money in whichever niche you have chosen.
Blog niche list of examples that drive traffic and are profitable
I’ll list below some general groups of blogging niches with more detailed examples. Of course, there are a lot more niches out there, and they may be more specific. It’s up to you to choose which ones resonate with you more and try them out.
When you are just starting your blogging journey, it would probably be good to experiment with broader and narrower topics to see what resonates with your audience.
You can also use Google trends to see, how wide is the audience for the niche that you choose. It’s more profitable to can solve problems for more people.
Health and fitness
Writing about health and becoming more fit will attract a wide audience. However, this niche might be hard to monetize, if you don’t exactly know how to do it.
One popular way how to do this is affiliate marketing. You may review a book about health or mention some fitness equipment that you use from Amazon to start making money with the posts. Check out this Affiliate marketing bundle to learn more about making your first money online (use

- Bodyweight fitness
If you have ever browsed Pinterest or Facebook, you have noticed all those beautiful posts and videos of food. Recipes have a wide audience, but it is usually hard to make money with the recipe posts. People want a recipe, and not to buy something.
Some of the profitable ideas would be to mention kitchen equipment that you use or a recipe book that you recommend. If you choose this niche, you could also make money by displaying ads on your blog.
- Cooking tips
- Healthy food
- Meal prep
This is very broad, including all things that you could write in a diary. Went to Ikea to buy a bed? Had some awesome garden improvement? Organized your kitchen drawers? You can write about it in a blog.
The tricky thing is to build an audience in this niche, because people may be interested in only some parts of the lifestyle.
- Home decor
- Events in your local area
- Cars / motorcycles
- Career advice
- Dating / marriage / divorce
Beauty and fashion
Make-up product reviews, fall outfit ideas, and hot boot trends for this fall all fall in this blogging niche. This is highly visual content, so if you want to go in this direction, you might want to consider Instagram or
In the beauty and fashion industry, you’ll have to let your personality and creativity shine. You inspire your audience to want to buy the same lipstick or jacket that you use to make a

- Personal style

Things to see in London, most Instagrammable spots in Singapore, and winter resort reviews in Europe are examples of blog posts in this niche.
Posting gorgeous travel destination photos may increase your blog’s visitor counts. You can recommend hotels, travel accessories, flights, and many more things. A cool way how to extend your travel is to build your blog and approach hotels to give you a free stay a review on your blog (but you have to have a strong audience for this to work).
- Travel diaries
- Travel hacking (finding discounts, using airline miles and credit card points)
- Living abroad
- Airbnb tips
Frugal living, paying debt, saving for early retirement, and a lot of ways how to make some money on the side fall into this blogging niche.
Bloggers who choose to write about this usually have a personal story of how they had financial problems and conquered them, or how they had above-average financial goals and achieved them.
Topics like these resonate with a lot of people, and if you can help them with some advice, there usually are a lot of ways how to monetize the process.

- Financial independence
- Frugal living / budgeting

- Real estate / Property
Blogging about blogging
If you ever come across a blogging income report, it most probably comes from this niche. Blogging advice, getting traffic from Pinterest, starting a blog, even this post that you are reading now belong to the “Blogging about blogging” niche.
Why do people choose this niche?
I’d guess that one of the reasons is the options for making money. This niche usually sells digital products like online courses or ebooks, which don’t have to be manufactured. Those are written once, maybe sometimes updated, but generally, the cost of producing the products doesn’t change depending on how many products are sold. This leads to high commissions for the people selling the products. For example, if you mention a T-shirt on your blog from Amazon, you may get a few % in commission, but that will be around 2-4%. If you sell an eBook, most likely you’ll earn 30-40% from the total price.
The other reason why I think that many people write blog posts in this niche is that we each have to learn something to develop our blogs. Whether that is “How to disclose affiliate links automatically” or “Pinterest tips and tricks“, it is something that you have learned yourself and can share with your fellow bloggers. So even if we have chosen to be in different niches, we still have some common problems that can be solved by this kind of advice.
- Social media
- Blog traffic
- Email marketing
- Affiliate marketing
- Blogging tools
- Web design
- Location independence / digital nomadism
My experience with finding a blogging niche
If you browse this blog more carefully, you may notice that the posts here are in different niches. There are travel posts, blogging about blogging posts, and a few random posts.
My blog doesn’t have a massive amount of posts (yet), and I couldn’t really decide what to write about. I’m excited to share my travels because this is a way how I can save those memories for the future and at the same time give my readers some ideas for their own travels.
And as I was writing about traveling, I had many blogging-related questions that I wanted to solve. Some of the solutions turned out to be good topics for blog posts.
My blog is growing, as are my ideas of what I want to do with it. I don’t mind having content of two niches on my blog, so let’s see where that leads.
